Why was my book declined?

NOTE: Due to high demand and our limited staff, we cannot provide specific reasons for why a book was declined nor reconsider submissions. Often the reason for a decline has nothing to do with the submission or author but simply lack of space availability, in which case our system will auto decline some submissions, even before asking for manuscripts.

Promote Plan

Here are some of the common reasons why we may decline a book:

  1. It's not in English.
  2. Your book was published over 30 days ago. Our readers—being ARC readers—prefer to read books with future publication dates. To determine publication date, we use the publication date which appears on Amazon.
  3. We already have too many books in your genre relative to the number of readers who read those genres. If we don't feel we can do an adequate job finding readers for a book, we decline the book.
  4. If your book is nonfiction, we may simply not have readers interested in the niche you write about.
  5. You are submitting your second or third book, and we want to see how our readers respond to your first book before taking on more.
  6. If you shared your manuscripts with us, we may have found formatting and / or editing issues in the same.
  7. We are at the capacity of what our team can handle right now.

DIY Plan

Here are some of the common reasons why we may decline a book:

  1. It's not in English.
  2. Your book was published over 30 days ago and we prefer to list ARCs, i.e. books with future publication dates. To determine publication date, we use the publication date which appears on Amazon.
  3. If you shared your manuscripts with us, we may have found formatting and / or editing issues in the same.
  4. We are at the capacity of what our team can handle right now.

Author Plan

If you're on the Author Plan and we declined your book, the most common reason is that it is an older release which we didn't discuss beforehand. See our book acceptance criteria for authors on the Author Plan.

Next Steps

We recommend checking out our book reviewer directory. It has ~1000+ reviewers whom you can search by genre and filter according to your preferences. The directory is a great way to find and connect with reviewers outside of BookSirens, and it is absolutely free to use!

We'd also be happy to refer you to other similar services that might be able to help you distribute ARCs to your readers. Thankfully, you have many affordable options. We don't receive a referral commission. All you have to do is ask.

When we decline a book, we remove all associated book files from our systems. You can additionally permanently close your account if you wish.

We wish we could accommodate everyone, but it's simply unrealistic. We wish you success on your writing journey!
